When it comes to achieving success in life, no one can deny the importance of good communication skills. All those who excel in their lives are good leaders in their respective field. So fact remains that if you want to grow up into a leader and be successful in your life, then you must develop and acquire good level of verbal and written communication skills.
Our mind is flooded with ideas. To translate those ideas into reality takes not just effort, but also requires the ability to express that idea; so that people get convinced and motivated to participate in your idea. If you are an entrepreneur and looking for an investor to fund your idea, then simply your concept design is not enough. You should be able to present it to the potential investors. Only when you are equipped with reasonably good level of communication skills, you will be able to draw the attention of the potential investors.
The same philosophy is universally applicable. If you are political leader, you must be able to motivate the masses, capture their attention and steer the people for action in your favour and support. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Barrack Obama etc can attribute their greatness to their exceptionally high level of communication skills, which make them stand apart from other political leaders.
The greatest advantage of possessing good communication skills is boosting one’s self confidence level. Just the ability to communicate yourself in an emphatic manner gives you an edge over others. In his world famous classic, “How to win friends and influence people”, Nepolean Hills talks about the importance or rather the necessity of good level of communication skills to grab the attention of the people so that they invariably become your friends and get influenced by your ideas.
The purpose of talking about all these distinct advantages of good communication skills is to emphasize the need to imbibe this essential quality as an integral part of your personality, if you truly want to be successful in life. Most leaders are not born speakers; but understanding this need, they work on improving their communication skills drastically. So if you feel that your communication skills are still not up to the mark, you must work on it.
In my subsequent post, I will be talking about how to actually improve your communication skills. Till then, you are advised to evaluate yourself so that you know where you stand and where you want to go.
